Young Islanders
First time voters and future voters
‘First-time voter is the expression politicians use for those who have never voted in a general election before. As elections only have to be held once every five years, depending on when your birthday falls you could be 23 before you’re given the chance to vote on how the country should be run.
And of course Future Voters (those under 18) don’t get the chance at all!
So I am making special arrangements for Young Islanders to let me have their views on the important issues of the day.
Tell Andrew your Views
Young Islanders matter because you are our Island’s and our country’s future – and most older people know it! I want to make politics and politicians more relevant and approachable to young people, to keep you informed about matters that affect you – and know what you think about today's key issues.
Whatever your experience of life and whatever your level of political interest, whether you are studying for A levels, are at university or have started your working career, whether you have lots of time or hardly any -- I want to hear from you regardless of your political beliefs. I would like to know what your attitudes, thoughts and views are on some of today's key issues, so that I can better represent you in Parliament. You may be sure that wherever relevant I will pass comments on to Government Ministers and councillors – who make decisions which may affect your future – and to my colleagues on the Opposition front bench. To make sure that today's politicians hear what you really think, take a moment to complete the on-line survey.
