MP wants awards for fighting poverty to be won by the Island

    Date: 27 Mar 2008

The Island’s MP Andrew Turner is on the look out for any small grass roots charity or voluntary group whose objective is to tackle poverty on in the Island.

    Mr Turner said:
“The Centre for Social Justice is looking for organisations which tackle the causes and symptoms of poverty for their Social Justice awards. I feel sure that there are some excellent groups here on the Island who could be in with a good chance of winning a portion of the £50,000 prize pot.”

The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) Awards recognise, reward and celebrate grassroots organisations doing exceptional work in tackling poverty and advancing social justice. The CSJ is an independent think tank which is not affiliated to any political party.

    Mr Turner added:
“Any organisation wishing to be considered for an award should simply describe in 500 words how they make an exceptional contribution to tackling poverty. The deadline for submissions is 14th of April, and full details can be found at www.centreforsocialjustice.org.uk/awards. I would be glad to consider supporting any organisation which enters, please send details to my office at www.islandmp.org.”
