    MP supports call for inquiry

    Date: 14 Jun 2007

The Government's reasons for refusing to give a date for an independent inquiry into why we went to war with Iraq and the subsequent bloodshed have been criticised by Island MP Andrew Turner.

He said it was nonsense to say an inquiry by Privy Councillors would undermine troops morale while they were still in Iraq.

Mr Turner, who voted against the war four years ago, said the shortage of vital equipment such as body armour, helicopters and workable radio equipment were sapping morale more than anything else and that a proper inquiry could help prevent similar problems in the future.

After attending the debate in the House of Commons earlier this week he said there was no end in sight to the conflict and in the meantime our soldiers are being killed and wounded while there was no sign of the country gaining stability.
