TV problems – could get worse!

    Date: 31 Mar 2009

Andrew Turner has raised the issue of ‘missing’ TV channels through Freeview equipment following changes to transmission frequencies on 25th March when the analogue signal from Rowridge for Channel 5 was switched off. A number of people have contacted the Island’s MP to tell him of the problems they have experienced following the change, including not being able to view a number of channels they previously received. Advice given by DigitalUK – the organisation set up to give advice on the switchover to Digital TV – is to retune again with the aerial disconnected and then do a factory reset. However a number of people have still found that the problem persists even after they have carried out this procedure.

    Mr Turner said:
“A small number of Islanders have contacted me about this issue, but I fear the problem may be bigger than it appears. I suspect some people will simply switch over to using the old terrestrial signal. This is fine for the moment; but of course all the old analogue signals will be turned off in 2012. Digital UK need to be aware of these problems so that they can work out how to resolve them. If you have been affected I urge you to contact Digital UK to let them know so that they are aware of the scale of the problem. In the meantime I am questioning Ministers from the Dept. of Culture, Media and Sport on what their understanding is of the extent of the problem and how it will be resolved. ”

    Digital UK’s website is at www.digitaluk.co.uk, or they can be contacted on 08456 50 50 50 o
