    A Message from the Island's MP

    Welcome to my website where you can find out about my role as Member of Parliament for the Isle of Wight.

    I recently held a debate about the investigation by the Standards Board for England into six Isle of Wight Councillors which a number of people have contacted me about.  The investigation seems to me to have breached some basic principles of justice and I thought it was time that this issue was finally brought into the public domain.  The Minister responsible for the Standards Board congratulated me on the 'tenor and manner' of my speech which he acknowledged was made in difficult circumstances following the sad death of Cllr.     The credit crunch and recession is hitting people very hard and Conservatives are committed to working constructively with the Government at this very difficult time.   I have been worried for a very long time about the levels of personal debt that have been building up - a product of the 'have today - pay tomorrow' society and now we know that under this Government that the country has also built up record levels of debt.   Home repossessions have rocketed and small businesses are facing very difficult times.   These problems may have started in the banking and financial sectors, but the fallout will be felt by all of us in the coming years.

    The answers to these problems are not easy, I am certainly not pretending they are.  However I am certain that the suggestion that Government spending should increase at this time is wrong.  I would be very interested to hear your views on the subject.

    The submission to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) asking them to investigate the cross-Solent ferry market has now been handed in together with the information and evidence from over 8,000 people, businesses and organisations who supported it. 

    The support for this campaign has been heartening particularly as so many people have been working behind the scenes to make it as good as it can possibly be.   The final submission document is not being made public as it contains information supplied in confidence but if you click the links below you can see more information about the campaign.  We now have to wait to see what the OFT's conclusions are.
