I would like to thank everyone who has supported the campaign for the OFT to investigate the cross-Solent ferry services. I have passed the OFT all the evidence I received and it is now a case of waiting to see what they decide. THey are expected to announce whether a full investigation will be held in May. Thank you for visiting my website. Andrew Turner MP |
Thank you to everyone who has supported my campaign for the Office of Fair Trading to investigate Isle of Wight ferry services.
Comment by Simon Perry, Ventnor, Online publishingThe following people and organisations are publicly supporting this campaign. We support Andrew Turners efforts and feel that its important to have a full investigation into ferry provision to the Isle of WightIt is clear that the ferry services are not being run for the benefit for Island residents Theres no clearer example of this than WightLink changing the FastCat timetable from the 1st April making it hourly halfing the number of journeys between Portsmouth to Ryde purely to increase their profits The new timetable also doesnt tie up with the IslandLine trains on the Island ruining a previously well integrated transport systemDay visitors to the Island will also be affected by this possibly not visiting the Island as journey times will be increased by an hour_High pricesWhile we understand flexible pricing visitors to the Island are put off coming due to the sometimes extortionate prices that are charged by the ferry companies especially WightLink at peak weekends We feel that an agreed price that ferry prices cannot go above would be a good ideaTourism is the life blood of the Island and ferry prices are deterring visitors to the Island |
